Drone Light Shows are the latest attractions, performed using Illuminated, Synchronized and Choreographed group of Drones in the air. The highlight of the 2022 edition of Dubai Shopping Festival is the DSF Drones Light Show from 15th Dec to 29th Jan. One can watch it for free every night at Bluewaters and the Beach JBR. It is the longest-running Drone Light Show in the region with 3D Animations and music.
How is a Drone Show done
Drones are flown arranged in different formations and can be used to create almost any type of Image using a Computer Program. Such Programs convert Graphics into Flight Commands that are communicated to the Drones. Drones, that are used in such Drone Light Shows are not self-aware. They cannot make decisions on themselves but they execute specific commands sent to them. The design team creates a storyboard timeline with the required images and special effects. An Animation is created using a special Software. This Software translates these Animations into synchronized flight paths for each Drone used in the show.
The complete show is sent to the Drones from a ground Control Station, operated by one or more Pilots, using Radio Signals. The Drones thus draw the Storyboard in the sky. We have seen promotional shows of Movies using such Drone Shows. Verge Aero, a hub of Robotics activity based in the University of Pennsylvania is one such which develops and do spectacular Drone Light Shows.
