Junk Food Before Bed? – No, not at all

Is it healthy to eat Junk Food before bed?. Dietitians suggest that eating Junk Food or Ice Cream, Pie, Chips etc. before bed is not healthy. These are high in unhealthy fats and added sugars. They trigger cravings and overeating. You may exceed your daily calorie needs by eating such Junk Foods. It could also interfere with your sleep, thus causing poor sleep or sleeplessness. In turn, this can lead to increased food cravings.

Eating food before going to bed itself is controversial as some say that it could cause weight gain but some other claim that it can support a weight loss diet. But, generally speaking, it is advisable and found to be effective to have dinner at least two hours before going to bed. While you sleep your body metabolism slows down and this could increase the chances of calories getting stored as fat in your body. So, give some time for digestion before going to bed.

Several studies show that those who eat before bed are more likely to gain weight. Also, it has been found that those who experience stress tend to see a rise in Ghrelin, which is the Hunger Hormone, in the evening. Therefore bedtime snack will more likely end up pushing the calorie intake over the daily limits. If you tend to have Acid Reflux, Junk Foods before bed shall be avoided.
