Pepper-Jeera Decoction

We all know that Pepper, Jeera, Cardamom (Elaichi), Ginger/Dry Ginger, Basil Leaves, Turmeric etc. have medicinal qualities. They are used almost on a daily basis (at least by Indians) and as components in Herbal as well as Ayurvedic Medicines. Let us have glance at their medicinal values.

Tulsi/Basil Leaves

  • Combats Respiratory Ailments
  • May relieve symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, colds, congestion, coughs, flu, sinusitis, sore throat, and similar ailments
  • Lowers Blood Pressure and Reduces Stress
  • Treats Gastrointestinal Disorders
  • Relieves Arthritis
  • Regulates Blood Sugar
  • Antiseptic

Ginger/Dry Ginger

  • Effective in treatment of Nausea and vomiting
  • Reduce Muscle Pain and Soreness
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Lower the Blood Sugras
  • Improve Heart Disease Factors
  • Good for chronic indigestion
  • Reduce the menstrual pain considerably
  • Lower Cholestrol Levels
  • Ginger extract is Effective in the treatment of cancer

Pepper

Jeera

Cardamom

  • Its antioxidant and diuretic properties can lower blood pressure
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Helpful in Digestive Problems
  • Prevent bad breath and cavities
  • Antibacterial to treat infections

Here is a simple but effective preparation for common cold and its associated symptoms.

Ingredients

  • Pepper:  4 pieces
  • Jeera: 5 grams
  • Cardamom: 3 pieces
  • Ginger: 1 piece (1 inch length>
  • Water: 500 ml
  • Basil Leaves: 3 pieces (if available)
  • Turmeric Powder: A pinch (Turmeric is a very good antiseptic)

Preparation

Remove the skin of Cardamom and take only the seeds. Peel the ginger to remove its skin. Put Pepper, Jeera, Cardamom, Ginger and Basil Leaves in a mortar and crush them finely. Put this mixture into a bowl, add water and turmeric powder. Keep the bowl of water for boiling. Allow it to boil freely for two minutes. Remove it from the stove and drink at least half a glass when it is moderately hot (don’t allow it to reach room temperature).

You can use this for four servings of half a glass each and heat the water along with the mixture each time before drinking. This is very effective for Common Cold and its symptoms, Body Pail as well as Indigestion. Instead of drinking cold water, you can use this on a regular basis.
