The World Environment Day has been celebrated every year on 5th of June since 1974. Governments, Businesses, Social-Groups and Individuals are engaged in addressing various environmental issues. Cleaning of public places, planting trees and proper disposal of household and industrial waste are some of the activities on this day.
Is it enough that we do it only on 5th of June every year? To me, it is like celebrating Father’s day, Mother’s day and any other day for that matter. Is it enough for us to remember our father and mother only on their specific days? Is it enough we spend time with our father and mother only on the special day? Certainly not!. They need our love, care and attention at all times. Agreed…everybody has own priorities and engagements, are unable to spare time for our parents on a daily basis. But try to find some time even for our parents who need our support.
Our Mother Earth
Just like our parents, the mother earth also needs our love, care and attention at all times. We, as responsible children (of the mother earth), need to understand the importance of keeping our environment clean, tidy and safe for our own benefit and survival.
For too long, we have been exploiting and destroying our planet’s ecosystems in various ways. It has been estimated that every three seconds, the world loses enough forest the size of a football ground. Leave the land, we are now encroaching into the oceans and wetland by way of constructing buildings, amusement parks whatsoever.
We must educate our younger generation about the importance of environmental protection. For that, first we must start on our own understanding the various environmental issues and how we can contribute ourselves in restoring the ecosystem. Our contributions should not just limit to the World Environment Day. We must do whatever we can on a regular basis. Keep our premises clean. Dispose off waste properly. Use bio-degradable and environmental friendly packing materials and shopping bags. Practice ourselves and then help others. Our contribution matters very much in the Government’s efforts for keeping the environment safe and clean.
UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration
United Nations has kicked-off the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. It is a global mission to revive billions of hectares of forests, farmlands from the top of mountains to the depth of seas.
The World Environment Day offers a global platform for inspiring positive change.
Protect our Environment, Stay Clean, Safe and Happy at all times.
