Benefits of Palak or Spinach

Palak or Spinach contains nutrients and have abundance of health benefits. It is not of course the most exciting of foods but is a great staple to add to one’s diet. Palak is packed with vitamins and minerals that your body needs including Potassium. There are two types of Palak – you can find one with Green Leaves and other with Red/Purple Leaves.

There are many health benefits eating Palak or Spinach.

  • Lower Blood Pressure – Consuming food items that have high potassium content helps in lowering your blood pressure
  • Eyes – Lutein, an antioxidant which is known for protection from age-related eye diseases like Macular Degeneration and Cataract – helps in protecting your eyes from vision impairment and blindness
  • Improved Cognition – Lutein also help in preserving cognitive abilities – general mental capability involving reasoning, problem solving, planning, abstract thinking, complex idea comprehension, and learning
  • Bones – Vitamin K present in Palak/Spinach is essential for healthy bone and its growth. You can fulfil the recommended daily amount of Vitamin K need by eating just one cup of Palak/Spinach
  • Skin – Our body uses the Vitamin A to grow tissues and skin. Palak/Spinach contains Vitamin A. This supports the skin’s Immune System and also helps skin stay Hydrated, thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Blood – Palak/Spinach contains a good amount of Iron which helps in making Hemoglobin in our body. Hemoglobin is needed for the transportation of Oxygen from Lungs to rest of the body
  • Vitamin C and Folate – Contains Vitamin C, which is necessary for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues. Vitamin C plays an important role in the Immune Function. Folate which is the natural form of Vitamin B9 helps our body in making healthy Red Blood Cells
